Web design in memory

Colleague in charge of web content management dies.

With his gift of telling stories, Carlos made us relive scenes from the past, with great detail and great lucidity.

On July 19, 2021, the journalist and general historian died Carlos Luis Monge Barrantes, leaving a great loss not only to his family, but here at ZEWS.

Don Carlos was born in San Isidro de El General, Costa Rica, in 1952 and, during his childhood, he witnessed many historical events and met a large number of prominent people, who, at that time, were also experiencing their childhood and adolescence. His love for letters led him to choose the profession that he practiced for most of his life.

He trained as a communicator along with other “old guard” journalists, in the newsrooms where the noise of typewriters sounded and a cigarette and coffee were the daily companions of an editor.

Within his journalistic career, he worked for the national written media, La República and La Prensa Libre, and was also part of the communication office of the Institute of Agrarian Development, now called the Institute of Rural Development.

He started with us as a journalist for our digital medium perezzeledon.net and, despite having trained in the days of the typewriter, he adapted to technology and digital tools. From there he took charge of the ZEWS writing and content management.

His erudition and knowledge on different topics allowed him to create original content for sitios web of company clients in different countries, there were more than 100 sitios web, displaying its professionalism and ability to adapt to many types of industry; from medicine to mechanics, from legal to technological issues. He liked to learn and write about new topics!

Don Carlos seemed to be a serious person, however, he was very kind and shared a lot of interesting stories.

He suffered a lot when the “blue elves” made a spelling mistake here or there, because when he worked in written media the mistake was imprinted forever, but he suffered less in modern times, since now it is feasible to edit and correct it in any moment. That was quite a discovery for him, knowing that he could edit something that was already published!

He always dealt with everything with great willingness and in an extremely professional manner.  The clients were surprised and very happy, because Don Carlos's work exceeded their expectations.

It teaches us that age is not an impediment to growing, acquiring new skills and improving because, although it took time at first, it managed to adapt quickly and without problem to navigating in the digital world, creating content, uploading it to the web, adding attachments, editing audios... if you want, you can!

With the departure of Carlos Monge Barrantes, Pérez Zeledón lost not only a talented “old school” journalist, but a historian who could have documented many pages of life in the area.

At ZEWS we will remember him with affection, respectful, good conversationalist, extremely punctual and committed to his work. Leave pleasant memories in all of us.

Goodbye, Don Carlos!
